Empower won’t turn you away

Unlike most trade unions, we are prepared to help any worker in difficulty straight away. Whilst most unions expect you to have been a member for 3 months or more at Empower we will provide representation, guidance and advice to you immediately.

You can call us on 07557 689180, email us at enquiries@empowertheworkersunion.com or book a free consultation on our booking page if you want to discuss your problem completely confidentially and with no obligations. Whatever you face from a grievance, disciplinary to tackling workplace bullying, requesting flexible working or a dispute over your pay - Empower is there for you.

If you need guidance, advice or representation and other unions tell you its too late? It is not too late for Empower to give you the support you need.

Someone on YOUR side.

Work is such a big part of life and when it goes wrong it can be a lonely and scary place. Whether you are facing a disciplinary or you are being unfairly treated and need to raise a grievance - whatever you face - you need someone to talk to who will listen, not judge and give you expert and honest guidance and advice.

Our reps are there for you, waiting for you to get in touch. Your Rep will:

  • Keep everything you say strictly confidential.

  • Give you honest and expert advice on your options for dealing with your situation.

  • If you choose, your rep can help you to prepare for meetings, write letters, and when you need it most can speak up on your behalf and defend you in hearings.

You do not have to go through your difficulty alone.

Why Empower?

You have a statutory right to be accompanied to a grievance or disciplinary hearing by a union rep. And having someone by your side, who knows your rights inside out and can defend you, makes an incalculable difference to your chances of being treated fairly. But if you are not already in union, nearly all unions will refuse to help you with your problem. That’s because being a member of a union is like insurance. You don’t take out insurance after your house has burned down. What about a lawyer? Well apart from the cost, you do not have the right to bring a lawyer to a work meeting.

Empower is different. We believe that everyone deserves to be able to access professional representation when they need it. Workers often don’t think they need to be in a union until it is too late. With Empower its never too late.

Talk it through

Sometimes all you need is someone to hear your side and provide honest, sound and practical advice. Someone impartial but expert in how work processes work. This might be all you need to work out your options and get things back on track.

At other times it can feel like you have nowhere to turn and can’t see the ‘wood for the trees’. Our reps have seen it all and will know how to help you. Whatever you are facing, getting through it starts with talking to someone who will understand and give you honest advice.

With you all the Way

If you decide that you need more help then your rep will support you all the way for as long as you need. You are in control - whatever you need from your rep they will be available and committed to you.

  • Prepare letters and grievances.

  • Help you prepare for work meetings.

  • Act as an advocate in hearings to argue your case convincingly and expertly.

  • Write or speak to your employer on your behalf to make sure that your rights are respected.

  • Stick with you, by your side and on your side.

But…what will it cost?

We are a trade union and not for profit, but it is true that we cannot offer this service for free.

We are a member-led trade union and we ask new members who need help to contribute towards the help that they receive.

In order to be able to offer help to new members, we operate a new member casework scheme. If you need help at the start of your membership we will ask you to pay your annual fee (£100). This will provide you with up to 3 hours of support. If you need more help we will ask you to pay a further £100. After that all help is free for as long as it takes. We will be by your side and on our side all the way.
